Joining hands with the Andhra Pradesh government to beat cancer

Making healthcare accessible and improving the quality of care by discovering and developing the right treatment for our patients has always been one of the top priorities for Roche. Our team closely works with government stakeholders and public health advocates for solving complex healthcare challenges as we strongly believe that no patient should be deprived of an opportunity to live a healthy life! One such example is the recent partnership with Andhra Pradesh government to strengthen capacity and capability within the cancer care ecosystem.

Andhra Pradesh government is set to develop Tirupati as a major hub for Cancer treatment by establishing Balaji Institute of Oncology (BIO), a state-of-the-art Cancer Centre that will provide high-end solutions in the field of genomics, personalized care and targeted therapies. On 12 November 2022, the AP government and Roche Pharma India organized a wide-reaching workshop on breast cancer management in Tirupati to foster capacity building, spread awareness and strengthen the cancer care ecosystem in the state for more than 200 healthcare professionals. 

Roche Pharma will partner with AP government to provide support with more such workshops and training sessions for doctors in order to bridge the current gaps in cancer treatment and management in the city. Senior officials of AP government including Shri GS Naveen Kumar, Secretary - Health Medical & Family Welfare Department and Dr. Vinod Kumar V, Director of Medical Education attended the event . Other stalwarts from the medical and academia field were also present at the workshop.

The AP government, so far, has spent INR 400 crore on cancer, 25% of the total state expenditure.  The state’s cancer care scheme Arogyasri aims to provide free treatment for all types of cancers.  The recent establishment of cutting-edge cancer center Balaji Institute of Oncology (BIO) is a great example of the state's augmentation towards holistic care.
