Atezolizumab is the first cancer immunotherapy to receive an approval in India for the first line treatment of ES-SCLC when given in combination with chemotherapy. Clinical study has shown significant improvement in the survival outcomes in the patients compared to the available chemotherapy options.

Lung cancer is one of the leading cause of cancer deaths in India. In a clinical study Atezolizumab has demonstrated improved survival outcomes, comparable safety profile and improved the quality of life for the already approved indications, previously been approved for other two types of cancers: Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) and Urothelial Carcinoma, a type of bladder and urinary tract cancer. The Phase III IMpower133 study, showed that it has significantly improved Overall Survival (OS) and Progression-free survival (PFS) for the first time in over 20 years for patients with Extensive-stage Small cell lung cancer.
